The division of Cancer and Ambulatory Support provides a comprehensive range of cancer screening, assessment, diagnostic and treatment services, and palliative care through inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The division is also responsible for the support functions for ambulatory and community health including the Central Intake team, central outpatients, Walk-in Centres and transcription.


The Administration Officers work with the wider to provide administrative support to the Division for people accessing cancer services.



Under limited direction you will perform duties associated with the role of Administration Officer for the Canberra Region Cancer Centre. You will:

  • Under general direction, provide administrative support to the Canberra Region Cancer Centre to ensure high quality support for clinicians and customer focused services to patients and their carers.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service at all times, including presenting in a professional manner and handling all encounters confidentially professionally, and politely following high quality customer service principles, practices and attributes.
  • Work in a collaborative and flexible manner with all staff members across the Canberra Region Cancer Centre to provide administrative support during hours of operation as directed.
  • To complete the workload, as directed, to meet deadlines of the service, showing flexibility and prioritisation within an environment of changing priorities
  • To promote a team environment to achieve service delivery KPI requirements, and to escalate as required.
  • Undertake all data entry with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Contribute positively to the culture of the wider team and department
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Relevant experience of working in administration.

The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional after-hours work, with access to flex time.

Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

  • Sound organisational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner, show flexibility and respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Established computer experience including proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications and the ability to quickly learn new medically based programs.
  • Ability to communicate, liaise and effectively with a broad range of people and work as a group member in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and it’s use within a health environment.
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
