This position reports to the Office Manager (reporting) and Administration Manager. The position involves the booking and scheduling of outpatient appointments and procedures, Medicare billing and medical record responsibilities, as well as other general administrative duties.
Outpatient Services (Ambulatory Care) includes all health services provided without the need for admission to hospital. A wide range of services are offered in Medicine Ambulatory Care settings including assessment and follow up appointments which allow clients to better manage acute and chronic conditions while reducing the reliance on hospitals.
The successful applicant will need to possess a strong work ethic and ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment, be committed to achieving positive results for the department and continually apply judgement, intelligence and common sense.
  • Under limited direction of the DRSM Office Manager and Divisional Administration Manager you will perform relevant administrative tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Assisting with the administrative functions of the Canberra Hospital Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Services including but not limited to
  • the management of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine medical and outpatient clinics
  • registering referrals and booking appointments
  • assist with the provision of reception services
  • provide general office administrative support to consultants, CNC, and registrars within the services.
  • Responsible for coordination and the set-up of clinics in the Patient Administration System
  • Knowledge of the Medical Benefits Schedule and ability to apply this knowledge into practice.
  • Consistently display high quality customer service, commitment to the implementation of the principles of workplace diversity, participative work practice and workplace safety
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the section with the delivery of person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
  • No relevant qualifications or minimum of experience working professionally in Public Health Administration is required.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

1.Proven ability to consistently display commitment, problem solve and managing competing priorities whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve a high-quality patient/customer service.
2.Well-developed interpersonal skills and oral communication skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
3.Demonstrated experience in managing information technology systems and a high level of computer and keyboard skills across a variety of software programs including CHS information management systems and Microsoft Office Suite, with a data integrity emphasis to deliver an efficient patient/customer orientated service delivery focus.
4.Understanding of the principles of the Medical Benefits Schedule and the application in a health administration environment.
5.Demonstrates a commitment to work, health and safety (WHS) and the positive patient experience and displays behaviour consistent with Canberra Health Service’s values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind.
