About the Opportunity

The Contractor Manager is an operational role, reporting into the Head of Operations Support and will be responsible for ensuring all Contractors working within the Operations function who work on ASC sites are suitably trained, competent and authorised to perform their Scope of Works with the appropriate level of supervision. This role is heavily reliant on the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with the onsite Contractor representatives at all working levels. These relationships will focus on driving improved efficiency & effectiveness of Contractors, identify and drive improvements in both safety, cost and schedule performance. This role will be a key interface between the project management and supply departments and will work closely with the Production and Boat teams within operations to ensure contract scope is clearly identified and performance KPIs are met.

This opportunity is a 12 month fixed term contract, based in Osborne, SA.

  • Set clear safety expectations with onsite Contractors and Champion the “PROTECT” value through strong Safety Leadership behaviours
  • Ensure the Service Provider Contractors remain compliant with Security Policies, Procedures and relevant Legislation
  • Promote ASCs PRIDE Values through your own behaviours and foster a culture that facilitates high performance
  • Support the development of contract Scope of Work. Input to be sought from relevant functional departments for example: Engineering, Planning, Scheduling, Production, Facilities and WHS&E
  • Represent ASC as Key Business Stakeholder, collaborating on Market/Tender Activities for major Service Providers
  • Ensure impact to the business from Transition of Service Contracts from Incumbent to New Providers is minimized
  • Ensure Contractors are suitably Trained, Competent and Authorised to perform their Scope of Works
  • Be accountable for the implementation and execution of the contract and ensuring the right level of supervision has been assigned
  • Champion Innovation & Lessons Learnt from Service Providers and drive the ASC Business to implement change to capture value.
  • Assign duties to the Operations Contract Coordinator and Superintendents as appropriate
  • Be the assigned ASC site representative for Contractors to liaise with
  • Indirectly supervise Contractors and their performance

Desirable competencies and experiences

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, business or other relevant discipline
  • At least 4 years’ of experience in operations leadership roles (preferably within defence)
  • Senior Operational Experience (Heavy Industry and /or Defence)
  • Establishing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Commercial awareness and financial literacy
  • Contractual development, negotiation and ongoing contract management
  • Leading high performing operations teams in complex environments
  • Managing multi-disciplined resources
  • High level conceptual, analytical and decision making skills with the ability to interpret (both ASC and customer) social, political and operating environments
  • High level problem solving that materially affects the value, viability and profitability of ASC
  • Implementation of Learn or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to influence and lead change


Eligibility and Requirements

The successful candidate must provide ASC with a current National Police Clearance prior as well as be eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance, part of this eligibility requirement includes Australian Citizenship. Access protected US Defence Technology will be taken into account in assessing an applicant's suitability for this role.
