The Role

The position of Coordinator Communications Officer reports to the Manager Communications and Design and is responsible for the development and implementation of communication programs to advance the objectives of the City of Ballarat.

In conjunction with the City Marketing and Creative Studio teams, the role will develop proactive communications campaigns and strategies for major projects, services, initiatives, events and decisions of the City of Ballarat and Council.

The position is responsible for ensuring the City of Ballarat and Council are communicated to the internal staff, media, the community and other stakeholders in a positive light.

 


About You

The successful candidate will help the organisation move towards best practice in; media relations, community connections through publications, newsletters and digital channels, issues and crisis management, stakeholder engagement and relations, digital innovation, website updates, providing strategic advice to Directors and staff, assisting with the planning of key Council events, corporate reputation, project management, public relations, speech writing and annual report.

 


Qualifications and Experience

  • The position requires a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline such communications and public relations, or extensive experience in a similar role with a minimum of ten years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated success coordinating and working effectively within a dynamic team environment and more broader across the organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a complex stakeholder environment, such as a Government department, media or similar organisations with political sensitivity.

  • Qualifications and experience as listed above.
  • Experience managing a team of people.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with leadership peers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare communications for external, internal and digital audiences.
  • Ability to develop relationships with and manage complex stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the economic, political and social issues relating to the local government environment.
