About the Role

Due to continued growth and investment in the data space we are seeking an experienced and motivated Data Scientist/Analyst to join our Data Science team on a permanent full-time basis in our Melbourne office.

The Data Science team have very big ambitions and is embarking on a different path to what it has been on in the past. Working closely with the Head of Data Science this is a unique opportunity to do something different with data science. You will have access to all areas of the firm and will play an important role in assisting the firm use data to make better informed decision making. Joining us now will mean you play a key part in the transformational journey of building a data-driven legal services firm and moving a traditional industry into the digital age, using data science.

We are keen to find someone who loves being able to use their data analytical skills and initiative, to identify improvement opportunities across the business. There will be multiple data and analytics projects to challenge you within the role and we will provide the successful candidate with the ability to make a difference to the success of the business and our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop useful, material, data-based insights and analysis including implications for the business
  • Partner with executive team and stakeholders across the business to gather and understand analytical requirements and to identify and develop best use cases for data and analytics application
  • Maintain understanding of external trends and best practice in data collection and analysis
  • Support and educate stakeholders to utilise data and analytics during decision making process
  • Promote a data and insights driven approach by identifying opportunities where data can improve business decision making
  • Apply relevant analytical techniques including AI, machine learning and text analytics
  • Manage multiple data and analytical projects as required to meet business needs

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification (in a related field to Data or Computing)
  • Proficient in data analytics, data discovery and insights determination through visual data discovery to solve business needs
  • Proven ability to interpret business needs, identify relevant metrics and design effective solutions
  • Experience working in cloud environments, ideally with the Azure data stack is beneficial
  • Exposure to leading business intelligence tools such as: Qlik, PowerBI, SQL, SAS, R or Python
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex analytics and recommendations in a simple, logical, and succinct manner to senior management and non-finance professionals
  • Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships
  • Project Management experience desirable
  • Strong team player who has the ability to work well in a collaborative environment
