Acute Allied Health Services (AAHS) are provided to a range of clients in the acute inpatient setting and specialised outpatient services at Canberra Hospital. Under general direction you will be required to provide administrative support within AAHS Physiotherapy Women’s Health and Paediatric services based in the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. You will be responsible for booking and scheduling client appointments, referral management, data entry, banking, and general administration tasks.



Under limited direction of the service manager, you will perform a range of administration tasks to support the service delivery. You will:

  • Provide administrative support to the activities and business of Acute Allied Health Services Physiotherapy.
  • Preparation, compiling and storage management of patient records and confidential patient correspondence to support service delivery
  • Support the departments with Allied Health data entry and reporting as required.
  • Provide a reception service for the services as required, including answering telephone enquiries; liaising with patients and service stakeholders; actioning referrals and responding to emails and correspondence.
  • Arranging and scheduling patient bookings for the services using the ACT Patient Administration System (ACTPAS) and other administration and clinical information systems.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Understanding of medical terminology and experience working professionally in an acute health care setting is preferred.

Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.


Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.


Notes: This is a temporary part-time position available at (18.38) hours per week for 11.5 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. A merit selection list may be used to fill similar temporary, permanent or casual vacancies in the next 12 months.



These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:

  • Proven administrative experience within a health care environment or similar.

  • Proven strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines within a complex and multi-disciplinary work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in medical terminology or similar, high level keyboard skills including a range of Microsoft Office packages with the understanding of, or willingness to learn, health information systems.

  • Proven highly developed interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to liaise professionally and effectively with a broad range of health professionals, patients, families and carers.

  • Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
