The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is Australia’s national criminal intelligence agency. We advise senior decision makers on serious and organised crime impacting Australia. We are a full member of the National Intelligence Community, a Department of Home Affairs portfolio agency, and a member of the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Group.

The Communication Officer works closely with team members to deliver a high-quality communication service under limited supervision. The role is responsible for providing strategic external and/or internal communication advice and support across the agency.

The Communication Officer works in a small team responsible for implementing the agency’s internal and external communication strategies, coordinating content for the monthly internal newsletter and weekly email bulletin, responding to media enquiries, updating the intranet and website via a content management system, supporting executive communication, assisting to manage events, coordinating graphic design requests and ensuring the correct application of the ACIC brand.

The position will work closely with the Assistant Director Internal Communication or Assistant Director External Communication as well as the Director Strategy, Communication and Reporting to support the Chief of Staff and ACIC executive.

The principal accountabilities and responsibilities may include:

  • Implement projects within the agency’s internal and external communication strategies, including ongoing improvement of the intranet.
  • Draft and edit communication material including executive messages, social media posts, internal news items, website and intranet content, in line with the agency’s writing style guide, based on the Australian Government Style Manual.
  • Work with internal clients and project teams and assist draft communication products, including communication strategies, to help them meet their objectives
  • Coordinate and develop content for the weekly all staff update and monthly all staff newsletter and monitor the communication mailbox.
  • Daily management of the media inbox, including coordination and drafting of media responses and other media materials to support key agency projects.
  • Liaison with the ACIC Executive, Chief of Staff and support to minister’s offices on media matters, including issues management and identification of opportunities.
  • Represent the ACIC in a professional manner with team members and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure communication aligns with the agency visual identity guidelines (including correct use of the ACIC logo and brand application) and associated communication frameworks including policies and processes.
  • Publish content to the ACIC’s website and intranet using a Content Management System.
  • As required, assist with other projects in the Strategy, Communication and Reporting Section by actively contributing to high priority tasks to ensure the timely and effective delivery of team objectives.
  • Media monitoring/analysis and out-of-hours support (participation in on-call roster) as required.
