Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Intake and Assessment Worker to join our growing Foster Care services team. The successful candidate will have strong relationship building skills as well as being a critical thinker. This role requires the assessor to have prior experience working in-depth with families to determine suitability for Foster Care.

This role involves tailored competency-based assessments utilising trauma informed, culturally responsive practice. You are required to have exceptional writing skills, a strong understanding of the child protection sector and have demonstrated ability to work with First Nations and culturally linguistically diverse people.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Assessment worker that is looking for flexibility within their career and loves to work autonomously whilst being supported with regular catch ups with the team.

What can you expect to be doing?

  • Provide in-home competency-based assessments whilst supporting and capacity building applicants in line with prescribed assessment and training frameworks, tools, processes and key performance indicators.
  • Assess applicants to ensure they can provide trauma informed, strength based and flexible responses to children and young people in care. Ensure they meet the required competencies and mandatory requirements to be recommended for approval status as a foster carer in South Australia. Develop evidence based non-approval recommendations if applicants are unable to meet the competencies, whilst ensuring the customer experience with AnglicareSA. remains a positive one.
  • Apply cultural knowledge to seek self-learning opportunities and consultancy to ensure the best outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and young people and CALD children and young people.
  • Proactively engage and participate in specialist consultations with Senior Aboriginal Consultants, Senior Clinical Psychologist and/or Senior CALD Consultants.

What do you need to bring?

  • Tertiary qualification Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related field.
  • Step by Step Accreditation or capacity to meet accreditation requirements. Current Safe Environments for Children and Young People. If seeking a casual position, this item is a must.
  • Demonstrable experience in composing comprehensive competency-based reports.
  • Ability to write succinctly involving a critical analysis of information gathered using the competency-based assessment tools and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in the Child Protection sector, including relevant legislative and statutory provisions and frameworks, compliance requirements and principals.
  • Proficiency in providing a culturally safe and considerate service to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) children, youth, families and communities and service providers, including understanding of kinship systems.
  • Ability to implement cultural and child centred practice and principals
