We're looking for a talented c-suite executive with proven leadership experience to provide visionary, values based leadership and management as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Commissioner of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). As the CEO and Commissioner you will guide the QBCC to deliver upon its promise - providing high quality, sustainable services, programs, policy and corporate objectives in alignment with the priorities and policies to deliver the best outcomes for Queenslanders.

As a senior executive leader your performance will be assessed according to four key accountability perspectives: financial, stakeholder and outcome, internal business, and learning and growth. As a leader in Queensland Government, you will display outstanding judgement, high-level integrity, strong agility to adapt to a constantly changing environment, a strong achievement orientation, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Key duties and accountabilities

As the CEO and Commissioner, you will:

  • Be the accountable officer for the Commission under the Financial Accountability Act 2009,
  • Ensure that the Commission's has an effective organisational structure, systems, policies, processes and procedures in order to ensure sound governance of the organisation.
  • Ensure effective and efficient reporting to the board is in place to provide assurance, identify emerging risks and trends; and ensure external reporting requirements are met.
  • Be able to manage multiple issues with a high level of political interest and public visibility, which may impact on the community and industry.
  • Identify and build collaborative and purposeful relationships with key stakeholders to deliver value to the people of Queensland.
  • Provide strategic and management direction to operational functions in the organisation including marketing, media, communications, information technology, technology, legal and people.
  • Be responsible for functions of the Commission which include:
  • Administer the licensing system established by the Act
  • Administer a system of inspection
  • Issue directions for rectification of building work under the Act
  • Take disciplinary and other proceedings under the Act
  • Assess and approve payment of insurance claims
  • Operate in an environment of competing priorities.
  • Drive collaboration and build quality partnerships.
