Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation, which uses peaceful, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future.

THE TEAM

The Creative Confrontation Unit leads Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP)’s iconic actions which use creativity and boldness to further campaigns and win on climate. We are a team of experienced activists that empower our volunteers and enrich our campaigns. The team is part of the Program department, which also includes our Campaigners, Communications experts, and Research and Investigations team. We work together to organise the strategic actions that supersize our campaign impact! Whether it’s stopping a huge new coal mine, taking the fight for the Pacific to the world’s biggest stages, or pushing huge corporations to go 100% renewable, you’ll be working on campaigns that will make the world safer and more just.

THE ROLE

The Creative Confrontation Assistant is responsible for assisting with the planning, preparation, coordination and implementation of Greenpeace Australia Pacific’s creative confrontation activities to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future, including direct action, direct communication, protest and interventions.

This role will also contribute to expanding the knowledge and expertise of our crew of skilled volunteers who are trained and ready to undertake creative confrontation. The Creative Confrontation Assistant will have some experience as trainer and facilitator working to run non-violent direct action and specialised training for staff and volunteer activists.

For more information about the job, please take a look at the Job Description.

Ideally you have experience in designing creative and innovative actions and delivering training programs that inspire and skill people up for actions. You are a practical thinker, who can be given a task and see the steps that need to be taken. You are also excited by creativity and are up for learning and experimenting, with a motivated, excited, and enthusiastic approach to change making! Being organised and knowing how to keep a cool head in complex and often tense situations is key.

You’ll also have:

  • Time management skills, the ability to think through, plan, organise and prioritise different aspects of projects and work to deadlines
  • Wonderful relationship building skills, with the ability to build trust
  • Some experience with helping coordinate direct actions
  • Ability to identify risks and aid in mitigating them, and
  • Interest in the maintenance of Creative Confrontation equipment, which may include vehicles, climb gear, boats and other equipment.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • The opportunity to be part of strategic, creative and effective actions that make real change in the world;
  • The opportunity to grow, learn and build skills in Creative Confrontation activities;
  • The chance to be embedded in the climate justice movement in a meaningful, impactful and purpose driven way;
  • The freedom and opportunity to try new and exciting creative projects and tactics;
  • Access to our global network of actions and campaigning expertise, and the opportunity to connect with our networks across the world;
  • Collaboration with amazing groups of passionate volunteers;
  • A great work-life balance including 3 day/21 hour work week, genuine flexible working arrangements and a high integrity workplace; and
  • A culture that celebrates justice and belonging.

A pro-rata Salary of $36,435.49 per annum + Superannuation.
