The Campus Timetabler, Metropolitan is responsible for coordinating the development of the academic timetable at the Melbourne Burwood Campus, taking into account student and staff experience of the timetable, effective delivery of the University’s curriculum through the timetable, and efficient use of the University’s teaching spaces. The position will assist in configuring, maintaining and monitoring the timetabling software and the reference data it contains, as well as regularly reviewing timetabling processes and identifying improvement opportunities.

The role provides expert training and support to Faculty timetablers and other users of the University’s timetabling software, Syllabus Plus. The position will also utilise expert knowledge of databases and data structures in working with IT support teams and student administration teams to ensure smooth functioning of the timetable for all stakeholders.

The position will collaborate closely with the Infrastructure and Property team and work with stakeholders in identifying timetable delivery requirements and advise on the implementation of changes in delivery, including blended and online teaching delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Analysing and distilling the core issues from the complex timetabling function, draw accurate conclusions and condense complex information and provide reports and insights that others can understand
  • Establishing systems and procedures to guide work and track progress and strive for excellence and continually evaluate progress and effectively overcomes barriers to achieve outcomes
  • Seeking feedback on improvement opportunities from a diverse range of key stakeholders on timetabling analysis, data and reporting services and implement change through appropriate channels
  • Building new and productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the University
  • Striving for excellence and consult regularly with stakeholders to clarify who requires the information and data, the purpose, criteria for success and where and when advice and recommendation is required
  • Planning and prioritising work and critical activities appropriately
  • Promoting technical solutions to modernise work practices and ensure alignment with Deakin’s strategic direction
  • Seeking to continuously improve and apply critical learnings and contribute to staff training and development activities.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields
  • A Degree with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining timetabling systems within a University environment and / or experience in becoming proficient with a specialised software system within a short timeframe.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying process improvement opportunities and working with others to deliver process improvement outcomes.
  • High level information technology skills, particularly in complex databases, data structures and Excel
