Role

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

Position Description

This position involves working as part of a team including a 0.9 Careers and Pathways Coordinator and a 0.5 Administrative Assistant. The direct responsibilities for this role includes:

Careers and Pathways

    • Individual career counselling for students including self-exploration and understanding of the student’s strengths, abilities, values, interests and weaknesses and relating this to discussion/exploration of career interests and appropriate career and educational pathways in relation to Vocational Pathways
    • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including parents, the Local Learning Employment Network, employers, community groups, RTOs and Headstart liaison
    • Provision of job readiness training, including interview skills and resume preparation
    • Management of and administrative responsibility for:
  • Structured workplace learning
  • Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) programs
  • Vocational Major program requirements
  • Working with the Careers Coordinator and also the Director of the Senior School to manage whatever events are determined to be necessary in order to assist student course and subject selection at appropriate times throughout the year
  • Assist the Vocational Major Coordinator in the implementation and delivery of the Vocational Major program
  • To perform routine administrative support tasks such as ordering supplies and maintaining and updating written and electronic records.
  • To take an active role in delivering support across the school within the ES environment as deemed appropriate in consultation with the Principal.

VASS Coordinator

This position involves being responsible for the system employed by VCAA to manage Senior Student information - VASS. This will involve:

  • Liaising with the Director of Senior School, Senior School leaders, College Administration, Careers Coordinator, staff and students
  • Ensuring that files are created for all students undertaking Senior programs under the auspices of VCAA within the College - VCE Units, VET, VCAL etc.
  • Ensuring that all relevant data is entered in relation to units studied, results received.
  • Ensuring that VCAA and the DET guidelines and timelines are met and complied with.
  • Undertaking training in the operation of the system if appropriate.

Community and Demographics: Mordialloc College is located immediately adjacent to the eastern beaches of Port Phillip Bay and enjoys excellent bus and rail access to neighbouring municipalities

It is a single campus 7-12 college and has been an integral part of the local community since its establishment in 1924 and celebrated 90 years of education in 2014

A diverse range of families from mixed demographics and an SFOE of 0.3056.

The school has grown significantly over the last six years. With 247 Year 7 students in 2021 this takes our whole school enrolments to just over 1200 students in 2022 (including international students.) The school population will stabilise at this number as we will only be taking 200 students into Year 7 in future years.

Gender mix across the College is slightly uneven with male students comprising 58%, although in some year levels it is a 50/50 split.

Enthusiastic and professional staff comprising of 4 Principal Class, 90 teachers and 36 ES staff. Over 60% of staff have been employed in the last four years in response to our most rapid growth years.
