The Principal Legislation Advisor will undertake legislation development and research tasks relating to policy initiatives of the Customer Services, Safety and Regulation division in areas such as maritime and rail regulation, road rules, driver licensing, vehicle registration and industry accreditation.
Accountabilities of the role of Senior Legislation Advisor include:
- Developing legislation to implement desired policy outcomes for the Customer Services, Safety and Regulation division including instructing the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel and ensuring all Cabinet, Parliamentary and regulatory impact assessment processes are complied with.
- Providing strategic advice and support to colleagues and to senior management on legislative issues and processes.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with policy officers across TMR generally, and with officers from other government departments.
- Managing assigned tasks to ensure quality outputs are delivered within predetermined timeframes and to a high standard.
- Drafting complex documents on behalf of the Minister and senior management, such as briefing notes, explanatory notes, executive council minutes and Parliamentary speech notes.
- Representing the division and the department on working groups on matters relating to transport policy and legislation.
- Complying with public sector legislation, standards, policies, practices and procedures relating to human, financial and physical resources.
